About Food Security Conference

For the first time in thirty years the supply of food seems to be in doubt, resulting in the one of the most challenging issues of 2008. The price of staple foods is spiralling (especially rice) and while global food production is continuing to increase, the growth in demand has overtaken the growth in supply. With so many issues revolving around the steady and reliable supply of food as well as efficient policy direction, it is a daunting task that has yet to be properly addressed. FOSECO will provide Governments and communities the platform to discuss thorough and in-depth sustainable policies of securing affordable and reliable supply of staple foods for their populace

The Strategic Rice and Food Security Conference (FOSECO) is a timely platform created to arm stakeholders with the base understanding of the problem along with an array of solutions and possibilities. FOSECO aims to outline, identify and provide an optimal base of opportunity for stakeholders to understand and embrace the underlying reasons behind spiraling food costs and the fundamental role it plays in national security.

The Strategic Rice and Food Security Conference will holistically address the main issues and problems effecting supply and demand, including the need for environmental friendly based sustainable productivity gains. The conference is timely as the Malaysian Federal Government has recently allocated RM5.6 billion under the National Food Security Policy during budget review of the 9th Malaysia Plan of that, RM 1 billion has been allocated as incentives to increase rice production . The culmination of the conference will provide all stakeholders, including policy makers, industry leaders, business communities and NGO’s a full understanding of the various forces causing the food crisis, the ideal solutions and myriad of opportunities it presents for the rice industry as well generating foreign direct investment opportunities especially from the Middle East.
